Child Adoption In Ohio
Adopting in Ohio: A Center for Homestudies and Placement Services encourages all adoptive families to obtain information regarding the procedure for adopting a child in Ohio to start with. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, also known as ODJFS has an online Adoption Guide, and website of child Photolisting of waiting children through their Adopt Ohio website.

Potential adoptive families can also contact an adoption agency in Ohio to get adoption information and to find an infant or a younger child whose birth parents are considering placing their child for adoption. Some agencies work with birth parents to place their newborn infants for adoption by providing counseling and helping to create an adoption plan for their child. Families who choose an agency that places infants have to go through the same requirements as those who adopt children through ODJFS, or children through the foster care system of another State. After the adoption homestudy is completed, the agency starts the adoption child matching process. When a family receives a child for placement, it takes six months in the State of Ohio to finalize an adoption. Families may adopt siblings together. Single or married applicants may adopt. Same sex couples may adopt, but only one partner is considered as an applicant.
Most agencies have information on adoption attorneys who can finalize a child's adoption in Ohio. A Center for Homestudies and Placement Services may recommend an adoption lawyer, but it is the family's choice whether they choose to finalize their child's adoption through our agency recommended attorney, or their own.
